The Best Beaches of Santorini
Santorini island is mostly famous for its incredible sunset and the impressive caldera. Due to its natural beauty and the high-quality tourist services, this is the top Greek destination, visited by millions of tourists every year. Although Santorini is branded as a romantic and honeymoon destination, it is also a nice summer destination with many organized beaches. The most organized beaches of Santorini are found on the southern side of the island. The majority of these beaches is large in size and extends for many miles. The Red Beach
The Red Beach is one of the most impressive Santorini beaches. It got its name due to the unique landscape with the red and black volcanic pebbles. This is one of the most visited beaches on the island and due to its small size it gets very crowded, especially in the peak season. A visit to the Red Beach is usually combined with a visit to the closeby archaeological site of Akrotiri, the Minoan town that was covered with ashes during the volcanic eruption of Thera in around 1,500 BC. The Red Beach in Santorini is organized with umbrellas and sun beds. Access is easy by bus or car, however, the seashore is a bit uncomfortable with large stones. Next to the Red Beach is the White Beach, with white volcanic rocks, unorganized and less visited.
Kamari Beach
One of the longest and most organized beaches in Santorini is Kamari. Located on the southern eastern side of the island, Kamari is lined up with taverns, restaurants, beach bars and accommodation units. This is an organized beach with umbrellas, sun beds and water sports, great to spend a day at the sea.
Perissa Beach
Right next to Kamari is the beach of Perissa. This is also among the most popular beaches in Santorini, organized with umbrellas, sun beds, restaurants and many tourist facilities. Both Kamari and Perissa are accessible with public transportation.
Eros Beach
Although this is among the least known beaches in Santorini, Eros Beach is actually a wonderful place to enjoy your swim. It is located on the southern side of the island and is actually a continuation of Vlyhada beach. Eros beach is partly organized and distinguishes for its fantastic volcanic formations. This pebbled beach has deep waters and a famous beach bar on the shore, Theros Wave Bar.
